From About All My Children
http://allmychildren.about.com/library/recaps/2003/bl20030319.htmLena leaves a message for Michael that there's no need to call her back; she just thought he'd want to know that she's making progress with Enchantment's chemist, Boyd Larraby. When Bianca walks in, Lena smoothly transitions to supposedly trying to make dinner reservations for a party of two. "Sounds like you have a date for dinner," Bianca notes, and Lena smiles as she replies, "That all depends on whether you're free to join me."
Lena looks around as they go into BJ's, and pronounces it lively and fun. Bianca is surprised, saying she imagines Lena having dinner in four-star restaurants and ordering in French. Lena chuckles and smiles sweetly as she tells Bianca, "I guess I'm developing a taste for things American." When their food is served, Bianca laughs that she can't believe she's making such a pig of herself! When Lena says she likes a girl with a healthy appetite, Bianca holds up a sprig of parsley and says this used to be a meal for her; even that she had to, like, choke it down. She explains that she had this eating disorder, and actually nearly starved herself to death. She asks if this is too much information, and Lena tells her no, "It's just what you're saying, it's so revealing and you're very open." Bianca admits that she feels very comfortable with her, and doesn't like treating any part of her life like a dirty little secret, "I've been there, done that." Lena asks if coming out was traumatic for her, and Bianca admits it was, on a lot of levels, "Was it painful for you?" Lena smiles as she replies, "Americans are somewhat puritanical about sexuality. European attitudes are somewhat relaxed." Two young guys come up and introduce themselves as Billy and Kyle before asking, "Do you mind if we join you, or are you waiting for your dates?" Bianca grins at Lena as she tells the guys that actually, they're not waiting for anyone. Lena proclaims, "Bianca's with me," and Bianca adds that she's with Lena, "Girls' night out." Lena tells them, "No boys allowed," and Kyle tells them they could have said something. Bianca thought they just did. Billy says it's really okay, "We didn't know." The boys leave, and Lena asks what they think they didn't know about? Bianca tells her, "Probably the same thing I'm not quite sure about myself. But I suspect. Am I right?" Lena tells her, "Bianca, I enjoy being with you. Isn't that enough for us to know for now?" Bianca says yes, it's enough, "For now."

Bianca pigs out on burgers. She picks up a sprig of parsley and explains about how it used to be a meal for her and even then she had to choke it down. Lena is surprised that Bianca is such an open book. She asks if it was hard for Bianca to “come out.” Bianca says yes and then asks if it was the same for Lena. This commentary is by Kym Taborn.
This where you can see that Lena is starting to fall for Bianca but realizes that if she does it is going to throw a big monkey wrench into her plans with Michael. So, she basically allows herself Bianca's company and some flirtation but keeps away from going beyond that. The line "Bianca, I enjoy being with you. Isn't that enough for us to know for now?" I find shows the frustration (along other feelings) that Lena is beginning to feel.
I have to hand it to the writers that they did develop Lena pretty well and show her at first enjoying her attraction to Bianca in a superficial way, then slowly realizing that it was more than just a flirting attraction, one that could screw up everything so to speak, and therefore putting the breaks on the banter, and yet Lena obviously could not shake her attraction to Bianca. These months definitely have become part of a tragedy on Lena's part. And in retrospect, does explain why she went into the apparent stalker mode. She has always been bonded and attracted to Bianca than vice versa. However, that also might just be a reflection of life's experience. Lena has seen a lot, done a lot, and experienced a lot. She knows what she's feeling and finds it worth basically giving everything else up to pursue it. In some ways I can understand that. As I have gotten older and gained experience, I have made decisions to do things that have been in the short term counterproductive; however, I felt that to be true to myself I had to make those decisions. Currently (late August 2003), Lena was just looking for an explanation, and then when she got it, it was close to what she had feared (it was not her who destroyed the relationship, but a traumatic third party event). This realization has made Lena even more empathetic and protective of Bianca. On the August 28, 2003 episode, Lena realizes that the relationship might indeed be over because of the third party events, however, she really really hates Michael Cambias and she's got a real big gun and some insect poisoning to make a statement. And of the suspects so far, she really is the most to be feared because what does she have? From her perspective she has lost Bianca to no fault of her own and all she can see is the guy who caused it all. I am rambling, yes, but I am impressed with how they are doing the storyline bringing Lena in and her surprise at finding an honest thing in her life, her attraction to Bianca. I can see why people were so into the FEM (Fusion, Enchantment, Michael Cambias) storyline. Addedum: since writing the above, Lena used the insect poisoning herself unsuccessfully) after finding out about Bianca's pregnancy. This is still an outcome of this juncture in Lena's life - here she is found what she felt was missing in her life only to have it snatched away from her permanently because of her association with Michael Cambias. It was, apparently for her, too much -- the guilt, the loss, and Pine Valley can be a very depressing place when you are on the ignore list.
This was the first episode where I started casually watching AMC. All I remember of this early time is hoping that Flanders would shoot Maddie (he shot and killed Chris Stamp instead).

***** (clip a) [Previously on - Boyd asks Lena which team she's on]
Previously on "All My Children"
Greenlee: Do you really think the person who's been e-mailing me is lying low because I'm so impossible?
Simone: Well, if you weren't, wouldn't he show up by now?
Boyd: Which team are you on?
Erica: I don't want to live like this -- these ridiculous demands and then your accusations and your jealousies! No, I'm sorry! It is too much. It's over!
***** (clip b) [Bianca interrupts Lena's call to Michael, so Lena asks her to dinner]
Lena: Michael, no need to call me back. I just thought you'd want to know I'm making progress with Enchantment's chemist, Boyd Larraby. [Bianca enters the room] Oh, you don't take reservations? How long of a wait for a table? Party of two. Ok. Thank you.
Bianca: Sounds like you have a date for dinner.
Lena: That all depends on whether you're free to join me.
***** (clip c) [Lena is developing a taste for things American]
Lena: Well, how fun.
Bianca: What is?
Lena: Well, this place is so lively. Oh, over here.
Bianca: Ah. I got to say, Lena, you really surprise me.
Lena: How do you mean?
Bianca: Oh, I don't know. I just imagine you having dinner in four-star restaurants and ordering in French.
Lena: I guess I'm developing a taste for things American.
***** (clip d) [Erica finds out Lena and Bianca left together (Lena mention)]
Boyd: Erica, I wanted to catch you before you left.
Erica: What is it, Boyd?
Boyd: Well -- you know what? This can wait till tomorrow.
Erica: No, no, stay. I have an announcement to make. My engagement to Chris Stamp is off.
Boyd: Oh, whoa. Erica, I'm sorry.
Erica: Don't be. I'm not. Get Lena in here so we can make a press release.
Boyd: Well, actually, Lena's already left for the day.
Erica: Well, then, get Bianca.
Boyd: Well, Bianca and Lena sort of left together.
Erica: Fine. I'll take care of it myself. It's what it always comes down to, anyway.
Boyd: Look, Erica, I'd be glad to stick around and help you.
Erica: No, no, I'd like to be alone. [Boyd leaves]
***** (clip e) [Lena is impressed with Bianca's openness]
Bianca: I cannot believe that I'm making such a pig of myself.
Lena: I like a girl with a healthy appetite.
Bianca: I got to tell you, this used to be a meal for me, and even that I had to, like, choke down.
Bianca: Yeah. I had an eating disorder. I was anorexic. I actually nearly starved myself to death. Is it -- I'm sorry. Is this too much information?
Lena: No, no, no. It's just what you're saying, it's so revealing, and you're very open.
Bianca: Well, I feel very comfortable with you, and I don't like treating any part of my life like a dirty little secret. I've been there, done that.
Lena: Was it traumatic for you, coming out?
Bianca: Yeah, on lots of levels. Was it painful for you?
***** (clip f) [Erica blames herself that Bianca is gay (no Lena)]
Erica: And you blame me for that? Jack helped Travis rip my heart out. [amc030317f-inc starts] Bianca was my life, and they both knew that, because of Jack, I lost Bianca, and Bianca lost me. She lost her home. She lost her mother, and look -- look what that's done to her. Look how she has suffered for that. Look how she's turned out.
Opal: Honey -- honey, do you truly believe that Bianca is gay because she didn't spend her wonder years under your influence?
Erica: Yes, yes, I do. I do. I truly believe that.
***** (clip g) [Two guys hit on Lena and Bianca]
Lena: Americans are somewhat puritanical about sexuality. European attitudes are somewhat relaxed.
Billy: Excuse me. Those buffalo wings as good as they look?
Bianca: They're terrific.
Billy: Look, I'm Billy. This is Kyle.
Bianca: I'm Bianca. This is Lena.
Kyle: Hi. Do you mind if we join you, or are you waiting for your dates?
***** (clip h) [The ladies shoo the boys away]
Bianca: Actually, guys, we're not waiting for anyone.
Lena: Bianca's with me.
Bianca: And I'm with Lena. Girls' night out.
Lena: No boys allowed.
Kyle: Oh, you could have said something.
Bianca: I don't know. I thought we just did.
Billy: It's ok, really. We didn't know.
Lena: What do you think they didn't know about?
Bianca: Probably the same thing I'm not quite sure about myself, but I suspect. Am I right?
***** (clip i) [Lena evades telling Bianca if she's gay]
Lena: Bianca, I enjoy being with you. Isn't that enough for us to know for now?
Bianca: Yes, it's enough. For now.
***** (clip j) [Opal tells Erica she's got to decide what to do about Jackson (no Lena)]
Opal: You know, when Jackson took the stand, he was looking out for Bianca. He was doing what was best for her. Well, it seems to me that you have a choice to make now. You either got to let go of the past or you've got to let go of Jackson. Just got to make up your mind and your heart once and for all.
