Mauser is testing a new anti-gravity device designed to capture and hold a Bailey in place. Cleo is the guinea pig. She is caught in a pair of laser beams and suspended a few feet off the floor. Sarge and Hel tease Mauser about some of his devices that didn't work out quite as planned. Cleo is starting to feel a little woozy. Sarge says if it can hold Cleo... Cleo objects, wanting to know if that was a fat joke. Voice interrupts to say that the invention is no joke. They are going to capture a Bailey and Cleo is the key.
Aboveground a Bailey approaches Cleo, who is lying on the ground with the energy pod next to her. When the Bailey gets close, Hel and Sarge set off the device that should hold the Bailey in place. It seems to work -- the Bailey is immobilized. But then the device malfunctions, and the Bailey gets free. Sarge yells at Cleo to get out of there. Cleo does, but then realizes that the pod was left behind and goes back for it, dodging blasts from the Bailey. Sarge and Hel cover her. Cleo grabs the pod and runs back, and they all jump down into the escape shaft. Hel and Sarge berate Cleo for going back for the pod. Cleo says they don't leave team members behind. Sarge and Hel are exasperated that Cleo thinks of the pod as a team member, but Cleo says that she feels like she is really a member of the team when she can help them by using it. Suddenly the roof of the shaft is blasted open and the Bailey descends into the space with Cleo, Hel and Sarge.
Cleo: "Guys, I thought the Baileys didn't come down the shafts?" Sarge: "You want to tell it that?" They jump down the shaft with the Bailey in pursuit. As they fall, a set of guns are activated which fire at the Bailey. The balsts take out the Bailey just as the team lands safely. The Bailey falls on down the shaft. Hel asks Voice where the guns came from. Voice replies that the early shaft builders must have put them there, but that all the records concerning them have been lost, so no one knows for sure.
Sarge suggests that they go down and look at the Bailey -- maybe see what's inside it. When they reach the fallen Bailey -- lodged in a niche in the shaft -- they see a betrayer approaching. They decide to try to get inside the Bailey and look to Cleo, the one person who has actually been inside one. Cleo: "I was just sucked up in its tractor beam. I don't know where the front door is!" Sarge says to use the energy pod. They take out the betrayer, but more betrayers arrive. Cleo uses the pod and finds the entrance to the Bailey. Cleo: "I never thought that my contribution to the team would be as a Bailey proctologist." They jump into the opening and seal the door behind them. Hel tells Cleo to try and communicate with the Bailey's intelligence. The pod begins to lead them through the Bailey. The find a guy hiding from them and realize he must be a dwark, on his way to the betrayer factory. They take him along. They encounter internal defense pods which attack them, only stopping when Cleo holds up the energy pod. Finally they reach the room housing the Bailey brain. Just then the Bailey starts to shudder as the betrayers outside try to dislodge it from its position. They succeed, and the Bailey plunges down the shaft.
As they continue to fall, Cleo crawls to the control center with the pod. It causes the Bailey to stop when Cleo instructs it to, but Cleo is engulfed in a force field. She is under the Bailey's control and tells Hel and Sarge that the Bailey is now going to return to its base. The Bailey starts up the shaft. Sarge and Hel realize that they are now in danger from more shaft cannons. They start ripping at the wires to the controls, hoping to break the force field holding Cleo. The dwark tells them to stop, and when they ignore him, he turns into a betrayer robot. He tells them that his mission was to destroy a Voice team, and now he will be successful. Hel calls to Cleo to try to break the force field. Cleo concentrates, and the internal defense pods come and attack the betrayer, destroying it. Hel grabs Cleo and says they need to get out now. Cleo wants to take the pod, but Hel says no, she doesn't need it to be part of the team.
The shaft cannons blast the Bailey just as Hel, Sarge and Cleo leap from it. The Bailey is destroyed. Sarge asks how Cleo broke the force field, and Cleo says it was from them talking to her. She thanks them for bringing her back. Sarge says that Cleo really saved them that time. Cleo says she thinks they saved each other.
