INSIDE THE HEAD OF QUEENLAESE

Introduction

[01] QueenLaese is a good writer and has some great series out.

Three little maids from school are we...

Luckily, MARRIED WITH FISHSTICKS never made it to series status

QueenLaese's Head

Interviewer:
[02] Why did you start writing?

QueenLaese:
[03] I have been writing stories ever since I learned how to read and write. Even before then, I would always have a story running constantly in my head. When I was a child, I was only allowed three library books a week - I devoured them in a day. When I ran out of stories, I would make up my own. I started writing them down to read when I ran out of books.

Interviewer:
[04] If you had to do it all over, would you be a bard? Would you write?

QueenLaese:
[05] YES! Writing is all I have ever really wanted to do. I can’t NOT write. I can’t imagine not having the stories in me and writing them down - in fact, writing them out longhand is my chosen method - then I type them up later, but longhand is always my favorite way to get them on paper.

Interviewer:
[06] Give us a brief day in the life of Laese.

QueenLaese:
[07] Okay - the alarm goes off - I hit the “snooze” button about a dozen times, then I have to race around to get ready for work. I work at a clinic as a medical assistant 8 - 10 hours 5 days a week. In between patients, I write or make notes on whatever story I’m currently working on. Then I go home and shower and change clothes, spend some time with Sarina while checking my e-mail and chatting with my Love on-line or over the phone, then she signs off/hangs up to go to bed, Sarina is in bed and it’s time to type up whatever I wrote in my notebook at work that day. I usually fall asleep in front of the computer, then wake up when my neck starts hurting and crawl into bed until it’s time to do it all over again.

Interviewer:
[08] How do you handle stress?

QueenLaese:
[09] I don’t (laughing)! No, seriously, it depends on what causes the stress - if it’s something I can do anything about, I just do it and get it over with - delete the cause of the stress at the source. If not, I just tell myself there’s no point in worrying over something I can’t change until I CAN change it - then I just do it.

Interviewer:
[10] Years from now, how would you want to be remembered?

QueenLaese:
[11] I think I would like to be remembered for being a strong, but very loving and caring person. I try to be those things, anyway.

Interviewer:
[12] What is your pet peeve?

QueenLaese:
[13] I don’t know that I have a pet one - a lot of things bug me, but probably teasing is the worst. I got teased a LOT when I was a kid and I hate it to this day. I really hate to see others - especially kids - getting teased or picked on - I tend to open my big mouth and try to stop it.

Interviewer:
[14] Who is Laese?

QueenLaese:
[15] I don’t know yet. I’m still in the process of becoming who I will be - of course, that is never-ending. Laese is still evolving.

Interviewer:
[16] Do fans expect to much from stars?

QueenLaese:
[17] Sometimes, I think we do. It’s hard to always remember that stars are people like the rest of us, just more well-known and well-loved. I think we need to separate the stars from the roles they play and give the people behind the characters their privacy.

Interviewer:
[18] What are your feelings on censorship?

QueenLaese:
[19] I am against censorship as a rule. I think ADULTS should have the choice to make the decision to watch/read/listen to whatever they wish. I do believe that people should be given the information they need to make an informed decision - for example, violence, sex, etc. disclaimers in fan fiction. In the case of children, though, it’s a whole different story. Is it censorship that Sarina is not allowed to watch certain episodes of Xena? I don’t think so - I think it’s only responsible to protect children from things that are not appropriate for them. In the case of children, what they watch, etc. should be left up to the parents.

Interviewer:
[20] If you can cure one disease, what would it be and why?

QueenLaese:
[21] Disease ... hmmm ... well, I don’t know - I’d really prefer to cure them all so no one ever has to suffer again, but if I have to pick one - and I’m assuming you mean a physical ailment here and not something like terminal stupidity - I would have to say that since cancer has taken so many of the people I love from me, that would probably be the one I’d eliminate first.

Interviewer:
[22] Do you believe in capital punishment? Why?

QueenLaese:
[23] This is one issue I haven’t decided on yet - the recent McVeigh execution left me wondering if I really did know right from wrong after all. In that particular case, I was against it - I questioned the wisdom of making a martyr of this person and thereby promoting his “cause”. However, I am not among his victims, so I don’t know if that would make me feel any different. I do resent supporting the criminals in our prison system, but I just can’t justify “killing” these people off to save money!

Interviewer:
[24] What is the most sensitive part on your body?

QueenLaese:
[25] Hmm ... getting a little personal here! I hope you don’t mind, but I think I’ll just decline to answer this one!

Interviewer:
[26] What do you see yourself doing in the future? Future projects?

QueenLaese:
[27] I am currently finishing up the latest installment in the Amazon Queen series. At the same time I have begun the LENGTHY and massive undertaking of re-writing the existing stories to alter the licensed characters to avoid copyright infringement, in hopes of future publication. Becoming published is a long time dream of mine. I also have many unfinished stories that I would like to finally complete - many of them I started more than ten years ago!

[28] I was recently asked to write a script which I just finished and hope to see it produced, but it’s a looong process, I’m learning!

Interviewer:
[29] How do you handle depression?

QueenLaese:
[30] I don’t - I just wait it out. Fortunately, it’s never been a problem that interferes with daily life - other than the occasional PMS hormonal fluctuation - which leaves me crying over TV commercials! - I’m pretty “up” most of the time.

Interviewer:
[31] What was the hardest thing you ever did?

QueenLaese:
[32] Saying good bye to my grandfather - who was the only father I ever knew - when he crossed over two years ago - in fact, I still can’t let go. I still miss him every day.

Interviewer:
[33] What was the easiest?

QueenLaese:
[34] Falling in love with my soul-mate - my “little Crow”. She is SO easy to love!

Interviewer:
[35] What advice can you give to future writers?

QueenLaese:
[36] Just ... do it. Write. Write anything, even if it’s crap - you can always erase and do it over. The more you write, the better you’ll get. If you love it, don’t ever stop, no matter what anyone says. Do the research, but write about what you love, so your passion for the subject comes through. And if you like your work, it’s good. Always have faith in that.

Interviewer:
[37] How did it feel to be published?

QueenLaese:
[38] I’m not, so we’ll skip it!

Interviewer:
[39] What has the show Xena meant to you?

QueenLaese:
[40] Oh - wow - there isn’t enough room here to write all that! I love the show - I still do, I always will. Through this show, I have met my soul-mate. I have also met many others who I can call my friends - that means a lot to me. Because of this show, others have read my stories - and through those stories, I was asked to write a script - even if it’s never produced, I was ASKED - because of stories I wrote about the characters of this show, one of my dearest dreams has come true.

[41] My gods-daughter met her heroes - Lucy Lawless and Renée O’Connor. That alone has touched me so much - Sarina means the world to me. That these two women who are loved by so many took time out to meet this child ... that alone makes them heroes in my opinion and in my heart. When Sarina told Lucy that, since the show was over and Lucy wouldn’t be able to be the Warrior Princess, she would take over for her and fight for those who couldn’t fight for themselves - because that’s what Warrior Princesses do and that’s the “Greater Good” (in her 8-year old opinion!), Lucy gave her that beautiful smile of hers and told her to go for it - something like “Battle On, Little Warrior Princess!”

Interviewer:
[42] How do you feel about its end?

QueenLaese:
[43] I wish it never had to end! But since it did, well, I would have done it differently - but no one asked me! I hate that Xena died and even more, I hate the WAY she died. I wish they had just skipped that whole silly “25 year- deep freeze” nonsense and ended it with the two of them settling with the Amazons, raising Eve to be an Amazon Princess.

Interviewer:
[44] What are your dreams? Hopes? Wishes?

QueenLaese:
[45] Oh, what I hope to do - what I DREAM of doing is settling down with my soul-mate and raising a family - at the same time, having a successful writing career! I have already written a script, and am just waiting to see where that goes right now - I would love to see this one produced as it’s a project I really believe in. Writing for television in general - well, I don’t know, but this particular script, I am very proud of. I would even be happy with a single season - sort of like that old sitcom, A Year At The Top? Only I’m not willing to sell my soul - or my integrity - to make that happen, so I doubt that it will. TV is a tough business - just ask the Taperts! (wicked grin)

Interviewer:
[46] Who do you trust?

QueenLaese:
[47] I trust most of the people in my life - if I didn’t, they wouldn’t BE in my life! I usually trust everyone until they betray that trust - then it’s a long road back, but I confess, I almost always give people a second (third, fourth ...) chance. That’s another thing Xena has taught me - no one is irredeemable!

Interviewer:
[48] If you are a parent, what is the greatest wish you have for your child?

QueenLaese:
[49] I am not a parent, per sé, but I have a 17-year old “stepson” whom I helped raise from the age of 6 and I have many other children in my life to love - especially my god-daughter, Sarina, whom I have cared for since the day she was born. My dearest wish for these children, whom I love like they WERE my own, is that they grow up strong in character and that they are happy and loving, kind-hearted individuals who never cease to learn and to grow. I want them to love themselves and feel proud of who they are, even as I am proud of them, and that they always know how very much they are loved and cherished.

Interviewer:
[50] What would you say every writer needs?

QueenLaese:
[51] First, an imagination. Then - and this is VERY important, GRAMMAR, SPELLING, and VOCABULARY skills - at least the VERY basics. A phenomenal story idea is useless if you can’t communicate it! I have been so disappointed in stories whose plot sounded so interesting and entertaining, but if poor grammar and misspelled words (and I do not mean the occasional typo - gods know, I do those all the time! Nothing a good proof-reader won’t cure!) ruin it in the first paragraph, I won’t finish the story. Get a dictionary, a thesaurus, and take a basic writing course just to get those grammar skills!

Interviewer:
[52] Do you believe in prayer? Explain.

QueenLaese:
[53] Well, since I am ordained, I would have to answer that a “Yes”! Actually, I do practice a pagan religion - and yes, I really am ordained!. But for me, prayer is never ceasing - always, I have felt - and do feel - the presence of the deity with me. It’s sort of a constant - if silent - “conversation”.

Interviewer:
[54] How do you feel about subtext?

QueenLaese:
[55] I like it!

Interviewer:
[56] What makes your best friend your best friend?

Fed up with the Warrior Princess' snoring, Gabrielle schemes to stuff a sock in her mouth

Gabrielle and Xena - Friends4Ever, even if sorta co-dependent

QueenLaese:
[57] My best friend is a sister of my spirit, of my soul - we are closer than my “blood” sister and I. “Tai’” loves me unconditionally, as I do her. She knows me better than anyone else, and we have a spiritual/“psychic” bond that is so deep, we always know when one of us needs the other. We can go literally years (and we have!) without contact and simply pick up where we left off. There is only one person to whom I am closer, and that is my Love, my soul-mate, my “little Crow.”

Interviewer:
[58] Could you or have you ever experienced, you or someone else reading one of your stories aloud in the public? What did/would you feel?

QueenLaese:
[59] I have not experienced this, but if I were to allow such a thing, I think I would prefer it be one of the children’s stories - to children. Their reaction would be one of absolute honesty and innocence, so I don’t know how that would make me feel - obviously, if they enjoyed it I would feel good, if not, I would be heading for the pencil and paper, determined to do better!

Interviewer:
[60] What's the most romantic thing anyone has done for you?

QueenLaese:
[61] One day, I was sitting at the computer, waiting for Crow to sign on and I received a phone call. It was her and she was calling to tell me that she wouldn’t be able to be on-line that night - because she was halfway to my house, making the two hour drive from her house to mine to take me out on a date!

Interviewer:
[62] What theme would you like to tackle in your next work?

QueenLaese:
[63] My next work is already in progress and I want to bring Xena back from the dead!

[64] Actually, I was thinking of writing a story based on what they’ve found in the excavations of “Amazon” graves in Pokrovka, Russia - sort of a speculative piece. I’m doing the research now, but archaeology fascinates me. I always look at the pictures of what they’ve found and wonder about the people who owned the objects. I try to give them names and I think about what they felt, what they thought about - what was their name? What did they dream and wish and hope for? What was their daily life like? Were they ever in love? Stuff like that.

Interviewer:
[65] What was the last thing that made you smile recently?

QueenLaese:
[66] We went to the circus tonight - Sarina’s first circus. Her delighted face made me smile all night.

Interviewer:
[67] What made you angry?

QueenLaese:
[68] I don’t know - I don’t get angry easily, but when I do, it’s hard to let go of it for a while.

Interviewer:
[69] You now have absolute authority over the world. Omnipotent in all areas. What is your first move?

QueenLaese:
[70] My first move is to install a “minister of common sense” so I don’t screw up the world even more than it already is! Then I would like to see total disarmament, world-wide and a complete disbanding of all military forces - war would be illegal. If world leaders wanted to fight each other, then they can jolly well fight EACH OTHER without dragging everyone else into it, as well! If they want to settle their differences with violence, let them get in a ring with boxing gloves!

[71] All the resources which go into war and military “readiness” could be put to much better use - AIDS and cancer research, feeding the world’s hungry children, educating the world’s children, etc.

Interviewer:
[72] Do you have stalkers? If so, how have you handled them?

QueenLaese:
[73] I had one stalker - an “ex” who was a veritable monster. She had made my life a living hell until I found a way to get away from her. About two years ago, she was looking for me - even to calling the clinic where I work and making an appointment. She never showed up, but the message was clear - it was her nasty little way of saying, “I’m back - and I know where to find you!” Needless to say, I was terrified! I started driving home from work a different way every night, but I was still convinced she was following me - I was a wreck. A few weeks passed and I relaxed a little when no further contact was attempted. Then, a friend (actually, a “fellow victim” of this monster) came and told me that this person had been to her house, asking about me - where did I live? Did she have my phone number? What hours/days did I usually work? That sort of thing. I was scared all over again. So I sat down and wrote a story in which I “killed her off”. It actually helped - I made it known through this friend, that if this person showed up anywhere near me or mine, I would not hesitate to do WHATEVER I deemed necessary to ensure my safety and the safety of those I love.

[74] Last I heard, she moved across the country for good and I haven’t had a problem since.

Interviewer:
[75] How would you categorize your best writing, and give the URL’s for them if posted?

QueenLaese:
[76] My best writing is the Amazon Queen series - especially Dragon’s Curse - that’s my favourite, although Warriors and Mothers and Cyrenê’s Tale come close.

Interviewer:
[77] What stupid thing did you do as a teen?

QueenLaese:
[78] There are too many to list! No, actually I was always in my room, writing stories or day dreaming or reading - I really didn’t do too many things other than that. Maybe that was the stupid thing - I didn’t get out and do more “teen stuff”.

Interviewer:
[79] What, if anything, can stop you writing, if only for a while?

QueenLaese:
[80] Nothing - even when I’m too sick to get out of bed, I still have that pencil and paper with me. I do occasionally get “writer’s block”, but even then, I don’t quit - I just write anything until what I want to write comes out, then I delete the other stuff.

Interviewer:
[81] In your opinion, do you fit your astrological sign?

QueenLaese:
[82] Oh, yes! I fit all of them - Sun sign Libra, Moon in Aquarius, Ascendant Leo, born the year of the Dragon ... yep, all me!

Interviewer:
[83] What to you is the worst feeling in the world?

QueenLaese:
[84] It’s a tie between worry and guilt

Interviewer:
[85] The best feeling in the world?

QueenLaese:
[86] Loving someone and knowing that they love you too.

Interviewer:
[87] Favorite song of the moment?

QueenLaese:
[88] Hymn to Her by the Pretenders

Interviewer:
[89] What is the first thing you think of in the morning?

QueenLaese:
[90] Going back to sleep?

Interviewer:
[91] Is there one part of the writing process where you usually get stuck? What have you tried to change that, successful or not?

QueenLaese:
[92] No, actually I can get stuck anywhere. I guess I have the hardest time ending the story.

Interviewer:
[93] What is gossip mean to you?

QueenLaese:
[94] Repeating things about people without knowing all the facts, whether harm is intended or not.

Interviewer:
[95] Are people easily swayed by 'hearsay'?

QueenLaese:
[96] I couldn’t say - I am not - I prefer to wait until I know all the facts before forming an opinion - which, unless asked or otherwise provoked by some strong emotion, I usually keep to myself anyway.

Interviewer:
[97] What are your feelings about people who use others for personal gain?

QueenLaese:
[98] That all depends - is the relationship synergistic or parasitic?

Interviewer:
[99] What is a hypocrite?

QueenLaese:
[100] One who DELIBERATELY does the opposite of they say? (What in the world does that have to do with writing?)

Interviewer:
[101] What kind of doughnut do you eat?

QueenLaese:
[102] Ewww! Fried dough! Uck! (I love the custard -filled ones! How’s that for the definition of hypocrite? )

Interviewer:
[103] Does the best writing flow for you, or does it come from rewrites?

QueenLaese:
[104] Oh, re-writes, definitely produce the best results! Sometimes it just flows - Dragon’s Curse did, but I ended up re-writing the whole first half - the second part just flowed, though and was it ever a rush!

Interviewer:
[105] Which part of writing do you enjoy most and why? (e.g., Taking the original notes, final rewrites...)

QueenLaese:
[106] I enjoy all of it - I love to be in the middle of a story, with the next part clearly in mind - and I love the way a new idea for the next story will hit me, like a thunderbolt, and watching the story evolve around that flash.

Interviewer:
[107] How often do you think about a piece when you're working on it and when do you think about it?

QueenLaese:
[108] When I am in the middle of a story, I am IN the story - I live in that world and everything I do in “real” life is coloured by the story, rather than the other way around. I walk around in a daze, running dialogue through my mind and envisioning the characters there with me, doing what they are doing in the story.

Interviewer:
[109] When someone walks into your bedroom, what are the first 5 things that they're likely to notice?

QueenLaese:
[110] I don’t actually have a bedroom of my own right now, but when I did probably the first thing that popped out were the Disney Princess posters over the bed. Then all the Raggedy Ann dolls I had made, my cat, and all the toys I had in the room - I had a wooden rocking horse, wooden doll cradle, and LOTS of dolls.

Interviewer:
[111] Do you feel in control of your writing, or do you get carried away by your inspiration or characters?

And then the noble bard banished the evil warrior princess to second bananaland forever!

Gabrielle got kinda carried away in THE QUILL IS MIGHTIER...

QueenLaese:
[112] Oh, no! (laughing) I think I already answered this one - the story is definitely the one in control of being written. I will start to write with a very definite idea in mind as far as where I want the story to go, but it almost never comes out the way I plan. It’s almost like I’m just a conduit through which the stories make their way to the screen.

Interviewer:
[113] If you consider yourself to have a muse, what exactly do you mean?

QueenLaese:
[114] Ummm ... okay, I do NOT hear voices! (laughing) but my Muse is the one who sort of “tells” me the stories.

Interviewer:
[115] Tell the truth--are you your favorite writer, or in your own top five? Why or why not?

QueenLaese:
[116] Well, I do love my own stories, but no, I’m not my own favourite writer - that would be probably Marion Zimmer Bradley. Her work inspired me, especially Mists of Avalon and her Atlantis novels - oh, and The Firebrand! That was excellent. I love her Darkover books, too.

Interviewer:
[117] Would the world be a better place if women ran it or would it be basically the same?

QueenLaese:
[118] Oh, as an “Amazon wannabe” I so want to say to yes, it would be better. I truly believe that at one time we did, but then things changed and it went downhill from there! I just don’t know - I think the world would be a better place if GOOD people - men or women, but preferably both equally - ran it.

Interviewer:
[119] What is your favorite spot where you live now?

QueenLaese:
[120] The library.

Interviewer:
[121] What books are you reading now? What about it/them is holding your attention?

QueenLaese:
[122] I’m not reading any books at the moment, but to hold my attention, a book has to take me into the story, make me feel like I’m right there with the characters.

Interviewer:
[123] What would your friends say is your worst trait?

QueenLaese:
[124] I don’t know - probably the way I’m always too distracted by my own inner world to pay much attention to the outer one!

Interviewer:
[125] Do you type with your fingers on the ‘right’ keys?

QueenLaese:
[126] Oh, heck NO! I doubt I could even learn how to type “correctly” by now, after all these years of “two-finger” typing!

Interviewer:
[127] What is the longest any plant in your home has been with you?

QueenLaese:
[128] I planted catnip seeds and it grew like crazy - I had about 7 pots of catnip before I had to take it off the window sill in the kitchen - then the cats found it and that was it. I had the plants from those seeds for about 2 years.

Interviewer:
[129] Do you have any particular bedtime rituals (glass of warm milk, etc.) that you follow every night?

QueenLaese:
[130] No, I just keep going until I start to fall asleep in front of the keyboard. Since I have insomnia, I have tried to establish many night-time rituals, but I have finally just given them up. I fall asleep when sleep takes me.

Interviewer:
[131] If you find a spider in the bathtub, do you help it out or squish it?

QueenLaese:
[132] I always help it out. I can’t just squish spiders, especially after Sarina and I watched Charlotte’s Web together. I really don’t “do” bugs and spiders keep the bug population down, so I tend to leave them alone - it’s funny watching me trying to scoop it out with something - because, while I won’t kill them, I don’t especially want to touch them either! - and put it outside.

Interviewer:
[133] What was the last thing you bought that you really didn't need?

QueenLaese:
[134] Nothing! I bought a “Wonder Woman” t-shirt for Sarina, then after I bought it, I found out it was an adult t-shirt - one of those little short ones - so I kept it for myself.

Interviewer:
[135] Have you ever smoked cigarettes--explain

QueenLaese:
[136] I do now. As for explaining, I don’t have to - I enjoy it - I don’t smoke a lot, but when I do, I enjoy every puff!

Interviewer:
[137] Who is your favorite Greek God?

QueenLaese:
[138] Hekate, goddess of the witches and of the crossroads. She is so mysterious and I think very misunderstood. She’s one of the “dark” goddesses of the moon and a goddess of the Amazons, along with Artemis and Selene, my other two favourites.

Interviewer:
[139] Why do fools fall in love?

QueenLaese:
[140] I think it far more foolish to NOT allow yourself to fall in love. Yeah, it can hurt sometimes, but if you find the “One” and refuse to allow yourself to fall, you’ve lost the greatest thing there is in this life.

Interviewer:
[141] Do you keep a diary and if so what do you call it? If so, what effect has it had on your writing?

QueenLaese:
[142] No, I don’t keep a diary. I learned a long time ago that my life is far too boring to record.

Interviewer:
[143] How has online writing affected your life and how you see yourself, your goals?

QueenLaese:
[144] Oh, wow - it has changed my life completely. For the first time, others are reading my stories. The biggest - and best - effect is meeting my soul-mate. By posting my work online, I have shared my stories with more people than I ever imagined would read them. I have learned through their feedback that, yes, I CAN write well and that means so much to me because I love it. I tried acting - which I also love, but I have no talent so I gave it up. I don’t know if I could ever give up writing stories, so learning that others like them has made me very happy.

Interviewer:
[145] What skill would you like to have that you don't have now?

QueenLaese:
[146] Gymnastics - I loved that and archery in school. If I could become somewhat proficient in controlling my body like the gymnasts do, achieve some of the power and grace and beauty that they have, I would be happy.

Interviewer:
[147] Who is your real life hero and why?

QueenLaese:
[148] I don’t know - so many people I have encountered have overcome so much adversity in their lives and they continue to just keep going and overcoming - those are the people I admire.

Interviewer:
[149] What fan fiction story touched you so much that you still remember it vividly?

QueenLaese:
[150] Oh, I would have to say ALL of Missy Good’s stories have done that - sometimes, I just have to go back and read them because I can’t stop thinking about them: http://www/merwolf.com.
And of course, Mel and Janice Meet an Amazon Princess by Crow - that’s the story that brought us together!

Interviewer:
[151] If you could only choose a single climate with no variation would you prefer it to be sweltering hot or freezing cold?

QueenLaese:
[152] Hot, definitely hot - I grew up in Michigan and when I was young I thought I would NEVER be warm - I LOVE it here in California!

Interviewer:
[153] What is the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them?

QueenLaese:
[154] I have pretty good intuition - my first impressions have never been wrong - so the first thing I notice is the feeling I get from the person.

Interviewer:
[155] Have you ever done something that accidentally caused something really bad to happen to someone?

QueenLaese:
[156] Not that I know of - I hope not! That would be devastating to me.

Interviewer:
[157] How is $25 well spent?

QueenLaese:
[158] Hmmm ... tough choice. Either Toys R Us with Sarina, or the book store with Sarina ... actually $25.00 on Sarina is well spent! Especially if it goes on books we can read together, or mixes for her Easy Bake oven that we can make together - anything that we can do together and share some time with each other.

Interviewer:
[159] Would you rather live in a sociable suburb, or alone in the deep woods?

QueenLaese:
[160] Deep in the woods, but not alone - I would want those I love with me. As well as my computer, so electricity would be a must - and indoor plumbing. But deep in the woods is my favourite place to be.

Interviewer:
[161] What literary character did you most identify with as a child?

QueenLaese:
[162] Every book I read, I acted out, so there were a LOT of characters I identified with. I loved fairy tales the best, but I always wondered why the princesses were so stupid - why did some guy always have to rescue them? I wanted to be the hero doing the rescuing, but I wanted to be the princess being the hero - if that makes sense?

Interviewer:
[163] What is the source of your inspiration?

QueenLaese:
[164] I don’t know - sometimes I just feel inspired to write something. I don’t think there is any specific source.

Interviewer:
[165] Where do your ideas come from?

QueenLaese:
[166] Any little thing can inspire a story idea for me. It just comes to me as a flash and I have to write it down before it’s gone. Then I go back to my little notebook and pick one for the next story.

Interviewer:
[167] What do you find most satisfying about your job?

QueenLaese:
[168] I don’t find my “day job” satisfying anymore. It’s merely a paycheck so I can continue to write.

Interviewer:
[169] What are the three things you enjoy most about writing?

QueenLaese:
[170] Living vicariously through the characters in my stories, creating - characters, places, etc., and having people like them - giving enjoyment and maybe a few hours of “escape” to others.

Interviewer:
[171] What were your favorite book, TV show, and movie when you were a teenager and what do you think of them now?

QueenLaese:
[172] Book: Gone With The Wind
Movie: The same!
TV show: Wonder Woman and The Bionic Woman - I watch those now and I think how paranoid we were about the cold war! But I still love them and will watch them whenever I can.

Frankly, Gabrielle, I just don't give a darn

Gone With the Wind

Interviewer:
[173] What's your idea of a perfect world?

QueenLaese:
[174] Peace and Love and Harmony between each and every person - if we could achieve those, I believe that the other problems - war, disease, hunger, homelessness - would go away. We’d be so busy solving the problems out of love for our fellow souls we wouldn’t have time to fight.

Interviewer:
[175] How real is your fiction to you?

QueenLaese:
[176] Very real - to me. I live in that world I have created as much as I possibly can get away with!

Interviewer:
[177] What Disney character do you most identify with and why?

QueenLaese:
[178] Belle, from Beauty and the Beast - I love that first scene where she’s walking around the town, oblivious, “with her nose stuck in a book” - that is SOOOO very me!

Interviewer:
[179] Who do you read for inspiration?

QueenLaese:
[180] Z. Budapest - she is a very prominent Dianic Wiccan priestess. Her Holy Book of Women’s Mysteries has given me glimpses of an ancient matriarchal tradition upon which I have built my “own” Amazon Nation.

Interviewer:
[181] What's your favorite website?

QueenLaese:
[182] Oooh - tough one - there are too many to name an absolute favorite.

Interviewer:
[183] When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

QueenLaese:
[184] I wanted to be an Amazon Princess like Wonder Woman - no, I’m not kidding!

Interviewer:
[185] What are the limits in sacrifices for true love?

QueenLaese:
[186] I don’t know. I think I would sacrifice everything for my soul mate or for the children in my life, but they love me, so they wouldn’t ask that of me. Would I give a kidney or something? Yes. Would I give up my honor or my integrity? No, because without those things, I would no longer be worthy of love from those I love so much.

Interviewer:
[187] If you could interview your favorite author, what questions would you ask? And, WHY?

QueenLaese:
[188] I don’t know - I would probably end up discussing the stories.

Interviewer:
[189] What makes a great kisser?

QueenLaese:
[190] The emotion behind the kiss.

Interviewer:
[191] What have you learned from your animals?

QueenLaese:
[192] Oh, there’s a lot I have learned from my cat - but I think the very best thing she teaches me is unconditional love.

Interviewer:
[193] Does our society glorify violence to the point we have become desensitized to it and the consequences?

QueenLaese:
[194] I don’t know about society as a whole - I personally can’t stand to watch violence - even Xena - which I love - I tend to look away or fast forward the fight scenes.

Interviewer:
[195] What is your motto?

QueenLaese:
[196] I don’t have one.

Interviewer:
[197] What do you think we take too seriously as writers?

QueenLaese:
[198] I think when we get too “technical” with our stories - yes, it’s good to have the facts, but the bottom line, when I write, I write for enjoyment, not necessarily for information - sometimes when I read a criticism of a story - not necessarily one of my own, either - I just want to say, “Lighten up, for crying out loud it’s FICTION!”

Interviewer:
[199] What questions should I have asked? Then answer them.

QueenLaese:
[200] I think you covered just about everything.
