INSIDE THE HEAD OF MYTHE

Introduction

Mythe to me is a cool bard who can write just about anything. A very good webmistress too. Read and feed. We must keep the bards well fed now more then ever. Let's get to know Mythe.

The ancient version of toe tags were somewhat
more extreme than our modern ones

Gabrielle was a cool bard, especially in LOOKING DEATH IN THE EYE

Mythe's Head

Why did you start writing?

Humm…well, the first time I had this cool idea for a movie when I was like 12 or 13. So, I wrote this cheesy script that had all my friends in it. I actually had fun writing it, considering that I hadn't a clue on what I was doing and all. I just let myself go. As always, life took over and I kinda moved away from writing. Until I got another cool story idea that needed to so come out. Well, I was working on it when I finally stumbled upon some Xena fan fiction. Read some very interesting stories. Realized that 'hey if they could do it then why can't I?' So I did…and now I've been on the path of writing ever since.

If you had to do it all over, would you be a bard? Would you write?

Of course… I love creating a world and throwing a couple characters into it then seeing what happens. During my short life, I've had an assortment of jobs that gave me experience but none really satisfied me. So, when I went back to writing it felt so right.

Give us a brief day in the life of Mythe?

Wake up to sloppy kisses from a burly Pit bull mix (Sid) and beautiful Malamute (Samhain or Sami). Sami abruptly plops herself upon my chest until I finally get my lazy self out of bed. Take my babies out and have an early morning romp with them. After which, I head for the computer and begin a new day of writing. I usually write all day long and then some. During my numerous breaks, I play with the kids, surf the net and as well as catch up on some overdue reading.

How do you handle stress?

I work harder…focus on what must be done and do it. Once done… light a smoke and relax. Since I quit smoking I just go off and relax.

Years from now, how would you want to be remembered?

As an accomplished author/artist that gave the world a portal into my own strange universe.

What is your pet peeve?

People who litter

Who is Mythe?

Well, in reality my name is Jeannie R. Obra. Mythe is just an alter ego that likes to write the edgy stuff. I'm a Shaman at heart that does her best to follow the path even though it does take me everywhere but it at times. I love all of Nature's wonderful gifts, especially trees.

Do fans expect too much from stars?

At times I think so.

What are your feelings on censorship?

It's wrong

If you can cure one disease, what would it be and why?

AIDS…I had one too many friends die from it. It was hard to watch my friends whither away as well as be in so much pain.

Do you believe in capital punishment? Why?

I do. Sometimes people do horrid things to others and they deserve to be punished for it.

What is the most sensitive part on your body?

My back… it's so hard to get a nice massage when ya wiggling all around.

What do you see yourself doing in the future? Future projects?

Writing numerous fiction books and illustrated kids books. As well as having my scripts made into major features.

How do you handle depression?

I become withdrawn and go off somewhere by myself. Meditate…speak to Nature.

What was the hardest thing you ever did?

Making it through Army Basic training.

What was the easiest?

Being me.

What advice can you give to future writers?

Practice, practice and practice. It really does work. The more you write the better you get. Believe in yourself and trust your instincts.

What has the show Xena meant to you?

Gods, Xena helped me get back onto the path of a writer and that's something in my book. It also made me realize that there need to be more women leads in movies as well as in fiction. I'm happy that I created characters such as Alex and Reese. Two strong women just like our dynamic duo. Xe, you rock!

How do you feel about its end?

I loved it. FRIEND IN NEED was sad and all, but our gals came full circle and that's what counts.

What are your dreams?

To finally get published and see a collection of my books in the bookstore. One day later on, maybe have a couple of those made into blockbuster movies.

Hopes?

The same… to get published, be successful and continue to entertain the world with my stories.

Wishes?

Pay my loans off and buy a house that has a very big yard with lots of trees, either in Florida or California. Both states are great places to live. I want to relax on a lawn chair and type the next novel upon my new laptop as my babies chase each other in the yard. Either way, once I'm settled and have enough money to live on I wanna give back to worthy charities and such.

Who do you trust?

My Mom and my friends.

What would you say every writer needs?

A thick skin for all the criticism that you're going to get.

Do you believe in prayer?

Of course, it's a time where people can speak to their God/ Goddess and bring peace among themselves. As well as seek guidance from time to time.

How do you feel about subtext?

I enjoy it when it calls for it in a story, but I'd rather have it up front though.

What makes your best friend your best friend?

I trust them more than everyone one else.

What's the most romantic thing anyone has done for you?

Numerous candles had been placed everywhere, lighting my darkened apartment. Small plates of finger sized portions of fruit and such were in various locations. There were small note cards with numerous love poems upon them. They had been arranged next to the plates as well as throughout the place. I was then given a wineglass filled with White Zinfandel. A breathtaking woman slowly escorted me to every card as the soft sound of Enigma played in the background. It was by far the best birthday that I've ever experienced.

What theme would you like to tackle in your next work?

Well, I'm working on a fantasy one as well as supernatural one. I wouldn't mind doing a Science Fiction story next.

What was the last thing that made you smile recently?

Sami was investigating her first turtle this morning. She didn't know what to do with it. It was so cute…too bad I didn't have a camera handy.

What made you angry?

Seeing road kill

You now have absolute authority over the world. Omnipotent in all areas. (Congratulations) What's your first move?

Make gay marriages legal.

You mean the time I got so drunk and smoked way too much that I finally passed out then woke up the next morning in a strange car. I was so lucky that the car belonged to another friend of mine. I was really stupid…something bad could've happened to me. Anyway, I totally learned not to do them again.

Time to take the kids out.

Is there one part of the writing process where you usually get stuck?

Sometimes when I write the love scenes. It can be hard writing a really hot scene when you're a shy kind of person like me. Besides, it's been so long… Anyway, I'm more at ease at writing action than steamy sex scenes.

What have you tried to change that, successful or not?

I do my best. If it means I have to rewrite the scene numerous times just to get it right then I must.

It means that you take your chances with it being true or not.

At times they are.

Someone who says not to do something then in turn does it.

What kind of doughnut do you eat?

Glazed all the way, baby.

Does the best writing flow for you, or does it come from rewrites?

Flows like the river at times…while I must admit some had needed a few rewrites for it to be polished. Either way it's part of the process.

Which part of the writing process do you enjoy most and why?

I love the whole process from beginning to end. Yes, it can be nerve racking at times but the end result is worth it.

How often do you think about a piece when you're working on it and when do you think about it?

I think about it all the time.

When someone walks into your bedroom, what are the first 5 things that they're likely to notice?

Well, there is my messy bed and a small pile of clothes on the floor. A cluttered desk with a neon green stuffed caterpillar doll that I won at 'Worlds of Fun' a couple of weeks ago from playing skeet ball. My numerous wolf pictures and finally the half gnawed on doggie chew bone.

Do you feel in control of your writing, or do your inspiration or characters carry you away?

It really depends. Sometimes I get so carried away that I swear that my characters are guiding me.

If you consider yourself to have a muse, what exactly do you mean?

She's the beauty that lives within, supplying me with all kinds of ideas, from stories all the way to art. She's also known by the name of Mother Nature. The great Mother is my muse.

Tell the truth--are you your favorite writer, or in your own top five?

Top five. There are so many good writers out there.

Would the world be a better place if women ran it or would it be basically the same?

I'd hope that I would be better, but it depends on her personality and all.

Sitting on the swing in the front yard.

It's sad…but I'm not reading anything at the moment.

What was the last thing you bought that you really didn't need?

A music CD.

Have you ever smoked cigarettes?

Yep. I would smoke a pack a week. I haven't had one in over 2 ½ years now…though I do crave one every now and then.

Who is your favorite Greek God?

Aphrodite is great.

Why do fools fall in love?

It's so much fun.

Do you keep a diary?

I used to when I was a teen.

How has online writing affected your life and how you see yourself, your goals?

It's given me a chance to meet some really cool people, get my name out there and the foundation of a fan base. I totally see me using it later in life as a way to keep in touch with my fans and such.

Bringing my characters and their worlds to life.
Sharing it.

What were your favorite book, TV show, and movie when you were a teenager and what do you think of them now?

The Shining by Stephen King. It's a tie between V the TV series and The Equalizer. Halloween was my favorite movie. Well, King is a great writer and I continue to enjoy his books. I realize now that I so had a crush on the character Diana from the show V. The premise of The Equalizer is great, but I must confess that I'd secretly switch the lead male role to that of a female. About Halloween, it's still a classic in my book.

What's your idea of a perfect world?

Everyone is equal.

How real is your fiction to you?

It's like the air we breathe.
