Upon the news that Britain's Royal Mail will be releasing a postage stamp on New Year's Day 2000 of actress Ena Sharples, this paper suggests tongue-in-cheek that NZ release a stamp of Lucy Lawless the same day.PRIMARY SOURCE
[snip] APPARENTLY New Zealand Post is planning a special stamp to be released on New Year's Day 2000. Britain's Royal Mail is coming out with one too, and they're one step ahead of us. They've already selected the face to take Cool Britannia to the new millennium. And doesn't it say a lot about the Mother Country that the face they've chosen belongs to the Coronation Street character Ena Sharples, that razor-tongued hairnetted old boiler with a mortgage on a seat in the Snug. One can only hope that New Zealand Post has the wit and wisdom to select Lucy Lawless to represent our fair isles. Brave, beautiful, intelligent and sensitive - the Warrior Princess is person to take us boldly forward into a new age. And let's face it - who would you rather press your lips to? Xena or Ena?
