Teaser

An alarm goes off, sounding a red alert. A group of what appear to be very worried looking underground scientists realize there is a major problem and send off a distress message. Things start to shake and all the scientists take cover. A huge machine looks as though it is losing power, and the expressions on the scientists' faces tell us this is a very bad thing.

Hel, Sarge and Cleo are checking out the alert but find nothing wrong. They report to Voice that it must have been a false alarm. Suddenly a man appears and calls Hel's name. She says it's her father. Sarge notes that she is picking up no biosensor readings from the man. Cleo is afraid, asking Sarge if it's a ghost. Hel's "father" says, "Help them." Just then an explosion occurs, knocking them all down. A hidden level appears beyond the blown out wall and cries for help can be heard coming from there. The man is gone, apparently taken out by the explosion. The three decide to begin search and rescue.

Act I

Hel, Sarge and Cleo enter a demolished area with lots of wounded. A woman recognizes Hel and identifies herself as a coworker of Hel's father. Hel asks Voice what is going on, but Voice doesn't tell her. Cleo is still worried about hauntings. They speculate that Hel's "father" might have been a hologram. Another woman calls to them from behind a barrier, inside the research facility. Apparently there has been a "containment problem". Sarge estimates that they have ten minutes to get the survivors out before the whole thing blows. She begins using her blaster to cut a hole in the barrier. Hel leaves to look for more survivors or another way into the facility. She sees her father and follows him. He seems to be leading her somewhere but won't answer when she calls to him. Voice assures her that it can't be her father, but Hel can't help but reach out to touch him. When she does, a blast of electricity engulfs her, paralyzing her. Then her "father" morphs into Creegan, and he hooks Hel up to a machine so he can trace Voice through her transmitter.

Act II

Cleo and Sarge are almost through the wall when Hel's father appears and tells Sarge she must reactivate the containment shields or a large portion of the underground (including the part where they are) will be decimated. Sarge turns to confront him, but he's gone and she's not sure if she even really saw or heard anyone. She and Cleo are both convinced, though, when a plasma blast comes through the wall which would have killed Sarge had she not been turned away from it. Cleo is certain Hel's father is helping them because of her "sixth sensor". They blast through the wall and evacuate the survivors. Then Sarge goes into the facility to reactivate the shields, guided by Hel's father.

Hel is just about to push her self-destruct button so that no trace to Voice can be made. She manages to hook Creegan to herself so he will die, too. Creegan taunts Hel that Voice hasn't told her everything about her father. Voice says that the trace is getting very close. Hel decides not to self-destruct but redirects the blast so that it hits Creegan and his henchmen. Creegan manages to escape, however, but Hel is free of the electricity holding her. Her father reappears to her and points the way out, telling her not to look back. She goes. Things are starting to get rough as the reactor begins to detonate. Back at the lab, Sarge smashes the controls of the machine, stopping the countdown with one second to go. Cleo finds Hel and the three are reunited without being vaporized.

Voice apologizes for withholding information from Hel. The three escape the area just before it collapses. Cleo and Sarge jump down the shaft, business as usual. Hel stays long enough to say, "Bye, Daddy" and then she jumps, too.
