Introduction
[1] Some time ago I posted the following to a Xena list, "You could write a book about Xena. (You could write a paragraph about Sinbad.)" Now Robert Weisbrot has proved me right by producing the most valuable book to date about Xena: Warrior Princess. His Xena: Warrior Princess: The Official Guide To The Xenaverse (Doubleday, 1998, 229 p., $14.00, ISBN 0-385-49136-0) combines detailed information on the production of the series with episode credits, synopses and commentaries. Weisbrot is more concerned with the production process than with the debates over content which have so absorbed fans. He covers the first two seasons only.[2] In e-mail correspondence with me, Weisbrot notes that his companion book Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: The Official Companion (Doubleday, 1998, 282 p., $14.00, ISBN 0-385-53256-X) contains information of interest to Xenites that is not in the Xena book. "The book on Xena seems to have overshadowed the one on Hercules. I had originally envisioned the two books as complementary, believing that readers would either buy both or none. So I tried to limit repetition: for example, including material on the producers' decision to film in New Zealand, their approach to Greek myths, Alexandra Tydings' bio, etc. [appear] only in the book on Hercules. To my amazement, I found at book signings that readers would buy about five copies (or so) of the book on Xena for each one on Hercules."
[3] This index is not complete for every name and title mentioned in the Xena book. I hope, however, it includes the information of most interest to Xena fans. Of the dozens of illustrations in the book, only one is indexed: see under "hot tub scene".

Biography
Michael Klossner
I was the right age to enjoy the children's swashbuckler series of the first decade of TV: Robin Hood, Zorro and half a dozen others. These have remained among my favorite TV nostalgia memories. The genre died on TV, as in the movies, but I am delighted that there have been three excellent, up-to-date sword series in the 1980s and 90s: Robin Of Sherwood, the Sharpe's series of TV films starring Sean Bean, and Xena.Over 15 years, I wrote about a hundred reviews of nonfiction books on SF, horror and fantasy films and TV for the review journal of the Science Fiction Research Association, which changed title several times but was usually either Fantasy Review or SFRA Review. I recently quit this after getting fed up with both gushing, fannish "making of" books and jargon-filled academic studies. I have written chapters annotating the best books and magazines on genre films and TV in four books, all edited by Neil Barron: Fantasy Literature (1989), Horror Literature (1989), Anatomy Of Wonder 4 (1995, covering SF) and Fantasy And Horror Literature (publication expected late 1998).
Although a mere Yankee transplant, I work as a librarian at the Arkansas State Library. I contribute to Chakram, as "Boeotian".
Favorite episode: A NECESSARY EVIL (38/214)
Favorite line: Xena: "I don't like violence. I'm just very good at it".
First episode seen: CHARIOTS OF WAR (02/102)
Least favorite episode: THE BITTER SUITE (58/312)
