Introduction

Velasca was the poster girl for obsession

^[01] Like every other Xenite in the world, I am obsessed with the show, Xena: Warrior Princess. But, there was a point where I was getting tired of Xena get ting all the attention from suitors while Gabrielle sat there. Right after I realized that, on one of my many lists, this story came out, "Gabby Gets Some", by a new bard named Nalysia (http://merwolf.com/academy/fanfic/n/nalysia_ggs.html)

^[02] I thought, 'About time!'. It's M/F relations, but at least the little bard got some while Xena had to wait. I enjoyed this story and had to write this new bard.

^[03] Over the past year, I have gotten to know QueenNalysia well. In fact, she has turned eighteen. She's full of way too much life for one person, and she has true Native American blood running through her veins. She is a smart, young, ambitious, and did I mention full of too much life? She's also very sensitive and very caring individual. I have enjoyed listening to her tell me about her Native American history. I have just enjoyed knowing her period. So let's get to know Nalysia (aka Sammy)

^[04] Why did you start writing?

QueenNalysia:
^[05] I had been reading Xena fan fiction for a while, and after a talk with a friend about how Gabrielle never got any [sex] on the show, I figured I would try writing [some] fan fiction about it.

Interviewer:
^[06] If you had to do it all over, would you be a bard?

QueenNalysia:
^[07] Being a "bard" has been the cause of many great things in my life, so of course.

Interviewer:
^[08] Give us a brief day in the life of Nalysia.

QueenNalysia:
^[09] These days I am not doing much. Sleep until noon, unless I have to get up early and help my grandmother. I come online as soon as I can to check my e-mail and take care of some online stuff while I chat with friends. In the afternoon and evening I am doing things around the reservation that I live on. Visiting my friends, mainly to play with their babies. Later on I go out with my friends that don't have babies at home to worry about. Then every night I am home at 11:30 to chat with Denise.

Interviewer:
^[10] How do you handle stress?

QueenNalysia:
^[11] Hmmm, good question. I normally just go off on my own to think things out. I have a place on a hill not far from where I live that I sit and relax. If it's more of an angered stress, I go for a drive. Nothing like curvy roads and going just a little over the speed limit.

Interviewer:
^[12] Years from now, how would you want to be remembered?

QueenNalysia:
^[13] A strong but gentle woman that was loving and caring but that you knew could kick your behind if you p----d her off. A bad girl with a heart of gold.

Interviewer:
^[14] What is your pet peeve?

QueenNalysia:
^[15] Fake people. People should have one face and just be themselves. Don't be something you are not and don't act different around different people.

Interviewer:
^[16] Who is Nalysia?

QueenNalysia:
^[17] A woman that is proud of who she is. I don't fit into a specific group and it doesn't bother me. I know what is important to me and that's what I focus on. Family, culture and spirituality, love and making the best out of life.

Interviewer:
^[18] What do you see yourself doing in the future? Future projects?

QueenNalysia:
^[19] Finish college with a degree in journalism, also get into filmmaking and photography. I want to tell the real stories of my people. Not just the Sioux Nation but of all the Native People in American. Also of strong women I have met in my life, and hope to meet. I would also like to tell the story of domestic abuse and things like that. I want to be able to use writing or film making to do that.

^[20] How do you handle depression?

QueenNalysia:
^[21] Not very well, but better now then I used to. I try to talk to a friend about it, but most of the time I work it out on my own without saying a word to anyone. If it gets to be too much I start acting different and my friends pick up on it and do what they can to help.

^[22] What advice can you give to future writers?

QueenNalysia:
^[23] Don't be afraid to be yourself. It what makes your work special, and different from everyone else's.

^[24] What has the show Xena meant to you?

QueenNalysia:
^[25] Friendship. I have met many of my best friends online because of Xena. It got me writing and that led me to meet someone that I love more then I ever thought possible.

^[26] How do you feel about its end?

QueenNalysia:
^[27] Sad, but I know that all good things come to an end.

Interviewer:
^[28] What are your dreams? Hopes? Wishes?

QueenNalysia:
^[29] To make the best out of my life and to be happy. I want people to look at me and see that I have made something of myself.

Interviewer:
^[30] Who do you trust?

QueenNalysia:
^[31] My mother, my grandparents, a few close friends, and my love.

Interviewer:
^[32] What would you say every writer needs?

QueenNalysia:
^[33] Determination, good imagination, and a style all their own.

Interviewer:
^[34] Do you believe in prayer?

QueenNalysia:
^[35] Yes, it is the base of my culture's spirituality.

^[36] What makes your best friend your best friend?

QueenNalysia:
^[37]They are there for me when I need them, they don't judge me, and they let me be me.

^[38] Have you ever experienced, you or someone else reading one of your stories aloud in the public? What did you feel?

QueenNalysia:
^[39] Yes, I have. I had to read some of my work for a class once. I was so nervous. I was shaking so bad I couldn't hold my papers straight.

^[40] What's the most romantic thing anyone has done for you?

QueenNalysia:
^[41] Taken me away for the night to a nice hotel, candles, bubble bath, rose on the bed, and my favorite food for dinner.

^[42] What theme would you like to tackle in your next work?

QueenNalysia:
^[43] Racism.

Interviewer:
^[44] What was the last thing that made you smile recently?

QueenNalysia:
^[43] Someone very special to me telling me they love me.

^[44] What made you angry?

QueenNalysia:
^[45] That same person having a mental problem, LOL.

^[46] You now have absolute authority over the world. Omnipotent in all areas. What's your first move?

QueenNalysia:
^[47] Naming my first love slave. (LOL) Seriously, I would make everyone equal. No matter what color, where they come from, how much money they have that are all equal now.

^[48] Do you have stalkers? If so, how have you handled them?

QueenNalysia:
^[49] Yes, umm I kinda had some family members and friends beat him up.

^[50] How would you categorize your best writing, and give the URL's for them if posted?

^[52] What stupid thing did you do as a teen?

QueenNalysia:
^[53] The normal, drinking a few times, tried weed, smoked. Well, not really smoked because I stopped having my own when I was 13. (LOL)

^[54] What, if anything, can stop you writing, if only for a while?

QueenNalysia:
^[55] Many things actually. If I have a lot going on in my life writing is one of the first things to but put aside.

Interviewer:
^[56] In your opinion, do you fit your astrological sign?

QueenNalysia:
^[57] Yes, It's clear that I am a Gemini, I have a split personality :) and they are always at war with each other.

Interviewer:
^[58] What to you is the worst feeling in the world?

QueenNalysia:
^[59] Losing someone you love. It has happened to me many times.

^[60] The best feeling in the world?

QueenNalysia:
^[61] Being in love.

QueenNalysia:

^[64] What is the first thing you think of in the morning?

QueenNalysia:

^[66] Is there one part of the writing process where you usually get stuck?

QueenNalysia:
^[67] Rewriting. I would rather just write down my thoughts and have it been done there.

Interviewer:
^[68] What have you tried to change that, successful or not?

QueenNalysia:
^[69] Nothing I can really do about that, it has to be done.

Interviewer:
^[70] Does the best writing flow for you, or does it come from rewrites?

QueenNalysia:
^[71] It flows from me. I think when I have to rewrite something, making sure if sounds right and that I didn't use a word too many times, it messes with my story.

Interviewer:
^[72] Which part of writing do you enjoy most and why?

QueenNalysia:
^[73] Getting started, I love thinking up new plots.

Interviewer:
^[74] How often do you think about a piece when you are working on it and when do you think about it?

QueenNalysia:
^[75] Whenever there is nothing else that I REALLY need to focus on. My best time to think about a story is late at night, so that is when I just relax and think out the story.

Interviewer:
^[76] When someone walks into your bedroom, what are the first five things that they're likely to notice?

QueenNalysia:
^[77] It's a mess, I have a lot of junk, I love books and movies, I don't make my bed, I really like pictures and posters.

Interviewer:
^[78] Do you feel in control of your writing, or are you carried away by your inspiration or characters?

QueenNalysia:
^[79] A little of both actually. I create the main idea and characters but at times they tend to go off with a mind of their own.

Interviewer:
^[80] If you consider yourself to have a muse, what exactly do you mean?

QueenNalysia:
^[81] I mean that I feel like writing, that my mind is in the right place to get some work done.

Interviewer:
^[82] Tell the truth--are you your favorite writer, or in your own top five? Why or why not?

QueenNalysia:
^[83] Again, a little of both, maybe in my top five. If I didn't think I was pretty good at it I wouldn't write at all, but I know there are writers with a lot more talent then I have out there.

Interviewer:
^[84] Would the world be a better place if women ran it or would it be basically the same?

QueenNalysia:
^[85] A little better, but in some ways the same. Because behind all the male leaders of the world is a woman anyway.

Interviewer:
^[86] What is your favorite spot where you live now?

QueenNalysia:
^[87] A hill not far from my home, the one I go to think at.

Interviewer:
^[88] What books are you reading now? What about it/them is holding your attention?

QueenNalysia:
^[89] I am not really reading a book that is out in print. I am reading I Found My Heart In San Francisco if that counts, mainly because of the characters. I can relate to them in a weird way, and reading about them helps me to understand some things in my own life.

Interviewer:
^[90] What would your friends say is your worst trait?

QueenNalysia:
^[91] I get bored easy. (LA LA LA)

Interviewer:
^[92] What is the longest any plant in your home has been with you?

QueenNalysia:
^[93] About four or five months I believe.

Interviewer:
^[94] Do you have any particular bedtime rituals (glass of warm milk, etc.) that you follow every night?

QueenNalysia:
^[95] Not really, I just strip on my way to bed and climb in.

Interviewer:
^[96]If you find a spider in the bathtub, do you help it out or squish it?

QueenNalysia:
^[97] I would help it out, I have a hard time killing anything other then a pesky bug. Yeah, yeah I'm a weird one.

Interviewer:
^[98] What was the last thing you bought that you really didn't need?

QueenNalysia:
^[99] A thong.

Interviewer:
^[100] Have you ever smoked cigarettes?

QueenNalysia:
^[101] Yes, I started at about nine or 10 but stopped having my own cigarettes when I was 13. I still take a drag from time to time just to end the desire to have one.

Interviewer:
^[102] Who is your favorite Greek God?

QueenNalysia:
^[103] Ares.

Interviewer:
^[104] Why do fools fall in love?

QueenNalysia:
^[105] Because it feels so d--n good!

Interviewer:
^[106] Do you keep a diary?

QueenNalysia:
^[107] I used to have a journal but that was before I really started writing actually.

Interviewer:
^[108] How has online writing affected your life and how you see yourself, your goals?

QueenNalysia:
^[109] It has got me into writing. I have NEVER thought of being a writer before I wrote my first fan fiction. I never thought I was any good at it. So it has made me feel better about myself, and have new goals that involve writing.

Interviewer:
^[110] What skill would you like to have that you don't have now?

QueenNalysia:
^[111] I would love to be able to sing.

Interviewer:
^[112] Who is your real life hero and why?

QueenNalysia:
^[113] I have a few actually. My grandma and great grandma because of the things they have over come in their lives and Tina Turner, for the same reasons.

^[114] What fan fiction story touched you so much that you still remember it vividly?

QueenNalysia:

^[116] If you could only choose a single climate with no variation would you prefer it to be sweltering hot or freezing cold?

QueenNalysia:
^[117] Sweltering hot

^[118] What is the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them?

QueenNalysia:
^[119] How they carry themselves, it says a lot about who they are.

^[120] Have you ever done something that accidentally caused something bad to happen to someone?

QueenNalysia:
^[121] Not really, other then chasing my cousin across old car bodies until he fell and sprained his ankle.

^[122] How is $25 well spent?

QueenNalysia:
^[123] Buying something for someone you love.

^[124] Would you rather live in a sociable suburb, or alone in the deep woods?

QueenNalysia:
^[125] Sociable suburb.

^[127] None, there was never one that fit into my world.

^[129] Knowing that people will read what I write and will get something out of it.

^[133] I don't really have a job at the moment.

^[135] Being able to tell a story, expressing myself, and excepting into another world, if only for a short time.

^[137] Montana Sky, Xena: Warrior Princess, Thunder Heart. I feel the same way about them.

QueenNalysia:
^[139] Quality, and everyone being who they want to be, not trying to fit the image that is cool at the time.

^[140] How real is your fiction to you?

QueenNalysia:
^[141] It depends on what I am writing about. Some things I write are just ideas in my head. Other things are based on real events. I get more into those then I do the other stories I write.

^[142] What Disney character do you most identify with and why?

QueenNalysia:
^[143] I don't really identify with any of them.

^[144] Who do you read for inspiration?

QueenNalysia:
^[145] Other peoples work *grin*.

^[151] Who you are. If you sacrifice the person you really are then what's the point of loving someone?

^[152] If you could interview your favorite author, what questions would you ask? And, WHY?

QueenNalysia:
^[153] If they write what they live, it would give insight to what they are really like.

^[154] What makes a great kisser?

QueenNalysia:
^[155] Someone that enjoys kissing, and knows what they are doing, and when to do it. When the kiss should be wild, and when it should be gentle, when to put their tongue into action, things like that.

Interviewer:
^[156] What have you learned from your animals?

QueenNalysia:
^[157] Looking cute can get you out of trouble every time.

Interviewer:
^[158] Does our society glorify violence to the point we have become desensitized to it and the consequences?

QueenNalysia:
^[159] Mostly, yes I think it has; we have become used to it. We may still feel sadness when something happens, and feel something should be done but we don't run out to make sure something really is done about it.

Interviewer:
^[160] What is your motto?

QueenNalysia:
^[161] There are no dreams too big, only dreams that are too small.

Interviewer:
^[162] What do you think we take too seriously as writers?

QueenNalysia:
^[163] Criticism. No matter what you write, and how good you wrote it there will still be people that don't like it or find fault with your writing.

Interviewer:
^[164] What does it feel like to be a young bard?

QueenNalysia:
^[165] It makes me feel good about what I have done. Knowing that I am younger then a lot of people that still have not done some of the things I have with my writing.

Interviewer:
^[166] What can you say to the teen bards out there?

QueenNalysia:
^[167] Don't feel like you have nothing to offer. Just because you are younger doesn't mean you don't have something to say. You may actually have more talent and insight then someone 50 years older then you.

Interviewer:
^[168] Tell me about your family tree.

QueenNalysia:
^[169] Well, I am a Dakota Sioux, and I am a member of the Iron Heart family. The very first Iron Heart was a shape shifter, he would turn himself into a hawk and fly out over hunting parties and things, watching over them. After that there was a Chief named Cloud Man as well as a few others, and one of my relations was almost part of the largest mass execution in the history of the US but ran away. So instead of 39 Dakota Sioux being hung in Mankato, Minnesota there were 38. My great grandfather was a pipe maker, and his wife was well known for her fry bread and beadwork. His pipes and her beadwork made it as far away as a museum in Europe. My mother is a pipe carrier, which means she has to be able to hold sweat lodge ceremonies, and be ready to pray with the pipe whenever someone comes up and asks her to do so. A lot of our culture was lost in our family, not as much as some but enough was lost that we have to learn it from outside the family. That is what my mother and I are doing now. In my family we were always thought to be proud of who we are. We are Dakota people, we are a proud people, and what others may think of us, or say to us doesn't matter. We were taught to be proud of being Native.

Biography

Amy Murphy
Amy Murphy resides in Indiana, and is an avid reader of Xena: Warrior Princess Fan Fiction. If it exists in the Xenaverse, chances are she has read it! Murphy has also tried her hand at writing fan fiction, turning out two very nice pieces that reside on a couple of web sites throughout the Xenaverse.
