INSIDE THE HEAD OF DEBBY VAN POUKE

Introduction

Debby VanPoucke is the owner and CEO of LadyHawke Productions. The show business bug bit her at a young age and continues to this very date. She's worked behind many great things over time and now has her own business.

Deb has many project's going on and we all wish her great success. What I liked about this person is... Everytime I read a post by her on a list or two, she was always very open, honest, and nice. She may have a very impressive resume, but she is still grounded.

If you have a question, or and idea she'll give you a ear or great advice. This wonderful highly educated woman has a great heart and that's great to see in the Hollywood world. Simply, she is too cool for words. Thanks for talking with us Deb, now lets know some about her.

Debby Van Poucke's Head

Why did you start writing/producing?

LOLOLOL ... writing ... well writing came out of necessity, to write down the framework of a piece .... The actual writing of the scripts goes to those who do it professionally. Producing is something I have been doing on so may levels all my life .... Getting all elements completed.

How was Ladyhawke born?

In the backseat of a 57 T'Bird .... just kidding ...... Do you mean the name or the company? ..... Ladyhawke was started in 1995, became truly active in 1998.

If you had to do it all over, would you be a writer/producer?

Ask me that when we have the print to our first film frimly in hand..... Better yet, when you are sitting in a theater watching it. .... Lol ..... The art of creating something that will hopefully inspire, change, give hope-- its a very powerful thing. So yes, even though there are times, during this process, when any sane person would want to run for the hills, what I am doing is exactly what I want to be doing...I am exactly where I want to be.

Give us a brief day in the life of Deb?

LOLOLOL ... well of course that depends on the day .... It usually starts making and answering many phone calls and emails ... then off to what ever meeting have been scheduled for that day. Development meetings, story meetings, meetings with legal counsel for writing, signing or restructuring of contracts. Sometimes I meet with people on set. And of course the ever present, day in and day out, never ending effort of raising money to accomplish our goals ...

How do you handle stress?

What stress??? .... lololol ..... Stand in the center of the people I trust and who trust me back, it is a very grounding force.

Years from now, how would you want to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as someone who made a difference through film ..... As someone who empowered the spirit, understanding that we are all in it together, and that there is room enough for everyone. To give your knowledge freely and make a better world because of it. And as someone who helped raised the bar for women in the industry.

What is your pet peeve?

Bad drivers in LA .... People who think they have the right ...... Bullies.

Who is Deb?

A crazy woman who has passion.

Do fans expect to much from stars?

Yes.

If you can cure one disease, what would it be and why?

Cancer, because, like aids it has taken too many people too early.

What do you see yourself doing in the future? Future projects?

God willing, producing a hit TV show ..... then move to Fiji.

What was the hardest thing you ever did?

Learning a sense of self, which seems to arrive with time if you are paying attention ..... Trusting more in my instincts ..... Learning to not have judgment or expectation [this is a tough one].

What was the easiest?

Loving .... whether for the right reasons or the wrong ones ... loving.

What advice can you give to future writers/producers?

Persistence in all things.

Who do you trust?

Those closest to me.

What makes your best friend your best friend?

Her undying love for me ... lolol.

What theme would you like to tackle in your next work?

We have already started a new project in development, It's called "somewhere in the Middle, the Dee Archer Story" ..... Incredible story, a true testament to the female spirit and rising above adversity. You can follow it at our website.

You now have absolute authority over the world. Omnipotent in all areas. (Congratulations) What's your first move?

Curing all diseases..... end all hunger ... encourage world peace.

How would you categorize your best work?

Personal best.......

What is the first thing you think of in the morning?

My girlfriend, and coffee, in that order.

How often do you think about a piece when you're working on it and when do you think about it?

Every waking and not so waking moment.

When someone walks into your bedroom, what are the first 5 things that they're likely to notice?

Industry...equipment.....neat toys.....too may cats.

Do you feel in control of your writing/producing, or do you get carried away by your inspiration or characters?

One feeds the other.....

What do you look for in new projects?

Intelligence, inspiration, empowerment, things that feed the spirit.

How has September 11th effected you?

More than I can express here, I lost several friends to this event, it has effected me profoundly on so many levels.

Who is your real life hero and why?

Oprah Winfrey ...... she inspires me on so many levels.

If you could only choose a single climate with no variation would you prefer it to be sweltering hot or freezing cold?

Cold....

What is the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them?

Their rhythm ..... energy .... eyes.

Would you rather live in a sociable suburb, or alone in the deep woods?

Deep woods ..... there is to much sound around me on a day to day basis ... it is important for me to find the quiet when I can, so where I live is a good start...

What is the source of your inspiration?

Infinite Spirit, good friends, and the love of my life .... [and Oprah...lollol]

Where do your ideas come from?

The zone.....

When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

A producer..... really.

What have you learned from your animals?

The constant example of unconditional love.

Does our society glorify violence to the point we have become desensitized to it and the consequences?

Yes.....

What is your motto?

Always keep 'em guessing ... lololol .... No ..... at the risk of sounding California cosmic, "Love is all there is" ..... and something henry Ford said, "whether you think you can, or whether you think you can't, your right"
