TV GUIDE PROMO

Mac Hollingsworth, an old-school relic hunter, leaves a key to Pandora's Box to Sydney in his will. She and Nigel travel to Baraq, where they are befriended by a local conman and petty crook, Ahmid. With Ahmid's help, they get into the palace where Pandora's Box is secreted...disguised as harem dancers. The palace is controlled by Colonel Montoya and his henchman Hauer. Sydney finds the hidden door the key opens, but she and Nigel are captured. Montoya opens the Box and is incinerated. As eclipses and earthquakes plague the land, Hauer forces Sydney and Nigel to decipher a clue to re-seal the Box. They do so, then manage to stop Hauer from selling the Box. TVTome.com

COMMENTARY

This commentary is by Beboman.

I found this episode weak. The only thing that saved this episode was the special effects when Pandora's Box was opened. For the rest, this was a tired storyline.

Outside of the special effects, the only other good thing about this episode was Sid Ahbar, a very colorful character very much like Salomoneus in "Xena: Warrior Princess". He gave the episode some really good moments, like when they were under the castle and he is asking Nigel if Nigel had watched "Xena: Warrior Princess" and the WWF (or WWE as it is now known). Then he goes into this whole thing about the WWF and Smackdown. That was really funny.

One other pretty good scene was the fight to stop the bad guy from selling Pandora's Box to a relic dealer. That was a really good fight, but all ya all know I'm a sucker for a good fight.

For the rest, the episode had very little to give. Not even Nigel dressed as a belly dancer could save it. The script was weak. They could have done more with the story of Pandora and her famous box. The editing and directing were sloppy. The actors just seemed to be going through the motions.

ON THE HUNT

04/17/02. Some sweeps highlights. Look for Omid Djalili ("The Mummy", "Gladiator") as a wise-cracking guide who may be leading Syd and Nigel down the garden path on the hunt for "Pandora's Box". Nigel falls for a six hundred year old Princess in one called "The Warlord" and later, Preston Bailey returns to the Relic Hunter fold in the episode "Fountain of Youth". Then, in "So Shall it Be", Syd and Nigel take on their old nemesis Fabrice DaVeiga, while racing the Gural Nataz to a druid relic.
